Take out the obvious garbage print films (anything made by
Ferrania, for example).

How have you determined the opposite?
Have you compared spectral respone charts?
I have.
Print film and slide film generally have pretty similar spectral
responses. The big difference is that print films have 3 to 5
stops more range. This gives them a huge advantage over slide
film for accurate scene rendition.
Slide films have approximately a 5 stop range (give or take a
half stop). The average scene type is around 6 stops (yes, I
have measured this with a properly calibrated Zone VI modified
spot meter).
By definition, slide film cannot accurately render an average
scene, as it doesn't have the xposeure range to do it.
This is pretty hobbling, don't you think?
