For birds, I TOTALLY agree!!!! However, 400mm lenses were out of my budget. My next purchase will be a 2x or 1.4x Sigma matched TC. I'll lose the stop or two for the extra reach without a worry and I'll STILL use my slow film. I like to torture myself! Christian
