I got an email from Aaron today after I asked about just such a thing - How big of a print are people asking for from their DSLR's/Digicams?
Aaron's reply (which I will send to the list once I get back home - currently I'm 'off site' per se *smirk*) stated that people are going up to 11x14 - but even there you can see artifacts from a D100 (the only camera I mentioned that he had dealt with) - he said that the images were good enough for the average person but if you looked hard enough you could see the problems. Why did I ask about this? Well, Aaron prints all his color work via an Epson 9000 (if memory serves me correctly). He scans and prints and that's the prints he produces for his clients. They are indistinguishable from "real" photographs. I was curious to find out where he saw digital going or how he handled some of his clients requests; most of whom asked for no bigger than 8x10. And from what I have experienced, this point has been reached for me. 6 MP is all I need cuz when those babies are printed up to 11X8 there ain't nothin that can beat it. Even bumping up to A3 in Photoshop, the prints are spectacliar (sic). Hence, I climbed aboard the wagon. In one respect, Pentax DSLR purchasers will have the advantage here: if the PDSLR is indeed 6 MP, then there's no waiting. Get the first one that is rolled out. It'll rock big-time for you.
