A friend of mine, a Physicist on the Atomic Energy Commission of Canada, a very well travelled and educated man, and I had a discussion about such things one day. While he is not happy about the lack of responsible ecological manufacturing solutions in the former Eastern Bloc, he is also of the realistic opinion that there is no way to get Eastern European countries to adopt less polluting methods if they cannot afford to change. Not buying products from them is a guarantee that they will continue polluting while supplying their home market. Buying from them, and pressuring them to be ecologically pro-active is a more reasoned approach. William Robb
