Well, I don't think it is middle level but entry level. Entry level can be defined in several ways: it doesn't necesarily mean the cheapest body on offer.

I just don't see what makes it entry level - you say entry level can be defined in several ways, how is pentax defining it? If we look at the competition the *ist matches up almost feature for feature with the Canon Elan 7 (~$340 street) or Nikon N80 (~$400 street). Both of these cameras are mid-range for their respective manufacturer, and each has at least a couple models below it in the lineup. Now, if Pentax can release the *ist with mid-level features for an entry level price (by which I mean the price of ZX/MZ-60) I'll be astounded. The only other way I can see the *ist being entry level is if Pentax is abandoning the low-price SLR market and only selling film SLRs to enthusiasts and selling digital P&S to everyone below that. Of course, this doesn't really make sense given that we've decided that the FAJ lenses are "entry-level." I just don't get it.
