the first in a new generation of cameras. The current Pentax SLR line-up
aren't the cameras the *Ist is designed to coexist with (something thats
pretty obvious as the *Ist has better metering and AF system than any other
Pentax SLR).

Perhaps in Pentax's world, entry level now means point and shoot. An entry
level SLR would then need to be better specified than their top end P&S
cameras. The FaJ lenses are pretty much point and shoot designs.
