EF zooms and even L lenses flare like hell (truly I can't understand how a company technologically committed can effectively disdain quality MC);
Perhaps Canon realized most consumers didn't understand or notice the importance of flare control so they didn't waste their money on this technology. Instead, they spent their resources on the most obvious technologies which would get the most attention.
