The biggest difference in look between old and new lenses are better 
contrast due to improved lens coatings. If anything, one of the 
attractions of Nikon lenses is that they are neutral, and this hasn't 
changed to the best of my knowledge.

these lenses lost some of that "look" that made photographers choose them in
