AFAIK, F* and FA* 300/4.5 shared identical optics. I believe the sharper 
images from the F* was a result of built-in tripod collar. That's also the 
reason I have never considered the FA*300/4.5. Of course, I have no hard 
evidence to prove my theory. But I am sure I am no alone on this matter.
