Shift over to a used LX.  Get a PZ-1 for back-up.

The LX will be a nice transition from the MX, but 3.5X more expensive.
It's what the Pentax glass needs. ;-)

Pick-up an old PZ-1 (or PZ-1p).  They are cheaper than the LX and have 
excellent features.  You will want to try autofocus eventually.  The PZ-1 is now 
inexpensive and crammed with features.

As an alternative, you could find a repairman you trust.  Make a personal 
relationship with him and just keep those old MX's rolling.  If you want digital, 
buy a 3 Megapixel point-n-shoot.
