That is a question I too would like an answer to. The remains of the old stuff looks thinner, but who knows for sure. The Service manual I downloaded from Mark Robert's site does not say, so I can only go by comparison. It would make sense that they were the same, but as I said the remains look thinner. It would also make sense that the mirror is supposed to hit the bumper first.
Not much help am I? I have not actually gotten around to replacing the MX's side and back mirror housing foam yet, as I want to take the camera completely down and clean all the crap out of it before doing so. The bumper was so far gone I had to replace it to use the camera at all. Lacking further information I will use 1mm for the light seals and if that does not work out I will add a layer (I have had good luck stacking the 1mm strips for ME Super mirror bumpers). BTW, the original foam is rather soft, and I do not think using mouse pad material (as sometimes recommended) for the mirror housing is a good idea, I have used it for film door light trapping in the past though.
