I know nothing about the 300D other than what is obvious. The lack of custom functions means you use it like the designers designed it. I would think that makes it basically a P&S DSLR. The tendency is to think that mega-pixels is all that counts in a digital camera, but after you have looked at a bunch of digital photos you begain to notice that that is only a small part of the equation. Many lower res. high priced DSLRs produce much better quality photos than cheaper higher res. cameras.
Since you now have Canon lenses the 300D may be the better option for you IF you do not need the features it does not have. Why do I say the istD is a generation ahead of the D100 (thanks for your clairification, Bill)? It is smaller, lighter, faster, quieter, much better auto-focus, has more features, and I think stronger and more durable than the D100. The only advantage I see that the 10D has is image stabilization lenses (if you need them that is overwhelming, otherwise it is a moot point). However, with the next release Canon and Nikon will most likely catch up and maybe pass the istD. That is the way that business is right now. A month ago these cameras were low-line, now with the annoucement of the 300D and the price drop on the Sigma they become mid-line cameras. Then you have the Pro cameras which all, except the 14n, are lower res. than the mid and low-line ones. And on top of that there is the 1DS in a class by itself. I think that Nikon will have a low-line DSLR out by Christmas, and Pentax shortly after that. The new Olympus E1 is aparently going to be a mid-line camera with no upgrade potential. Where Fuji and Kodak are headed is anybody's guess.
