Speaking from the clerk's POV, I always ask for clarification.  People
phrase things in different ways, and I have no idea if they're referring
to using the full frame of the negative or the paper.

Personally, I like having most of my 8x10 enlargements from 35mm printed
full-frame as 8x12s.  Then, if I decide to crop it to 8x10, I can choose
exactly where to chop the 2", instead of relying on the lab to understand
my instructions.  Often I'll keep it as 8x12, though, as I've composed the
shot in the viewfinder in that format.
