Hi Alex,

It really depends on your priority. Even my MZ-3 is much much better in
term of build quality (made in Japan vs *ist made in Philippine), but I
could live with it. And both MZs & ist are made for different purposes.
I need something compact, light, but sophisticated enough plus my wife
could use it sometimes with the extensive auto settings.

So far I had no problem with VFs. My 300/4.5 is still easy to use with
both MZ3 and *ist. The only thing I miss is the power zoom capability
which is missing from the *ist. I like my MZ3 which put focusing ring
back to infinity and zoom to the shortest when turning off the body.

And if you use wide aperture lenses, *ist can reach 1/4000 too, not so
shabby compared to MZ-S' 1/6000.

So far, I think *ist also has the widest AF coverage among other Pentax
bodies, and having wider and more sensitive AF mean more chance to catch
a tack sharp focus with your subject regardless it's position. It's just
a tad slow, and if it's faster, I think we have a winner - with price of
course. So I won't ask more from a $300 camera body. It's GREAT!

Thanks

Winston

How about the build quality?
I really didn't liked the *ist. It feels like it would break in my
hands;
even my MZ-6 is much better.
And I think MZ-S have a much better viewfinder, this is more important
for
me than 11-points AF. That's what I don't like about my MZ-6... I almost
can't use MF on that camera, I thought because of my eyes; but with
*istD (I
tried it in a store) everything was fine.
