So I'd stick with a film SLR (and film isn't going to disappear anytime soon because there are millions of film cameras out there -- if I have to I'll direct order film from some African country where it is still available I'll do so), and my digital P&S. Simple. If you haven't got the bucks to drop on an expensive DSLR, you haven't got the bucks. And that means they will only sell a limited number of DSLRs. Like they have now (a small percentage of this list have the *istD). Which is why I think you are wrong. Companies can't force people to buy something they cannot afford. Ergo, if they want to sell tons more then they have to drop prices. (This almost feels like pressure from Pentax headquarters to buy the *istD at its current price.
