A 645-chassis D-SLR with a 35mm sensor isn't a terrible idea. There are a few places where I think it makes sense, especially coming from Pentax's point of view. Pentax has very little penetration in the professional market with their 35mm SLRs. Their 645 and 67 SLRs are pretty common in the professional market. Designing lenses for 35mm has different requirements than designing them for digital. One big factor is the angle of the rays of light as they go from the rear optic to the sensor. Film doesn't care if the light is coming at an off angle, while CCDs want it to be almost perpendicular to the sensor. It is always perpendicular at the center of the lens and goes out from there, so using just the center of the lens will result in less problems here. Of course most 645 lenses aren't necessarily built for the same resolution as 35mm lenses... alex
