i forgot to say, Apple made all image editing programs color managed by how
they structured the video programming API. you had to work very hard to
avoid the automatic color management. in Windows, it's the other way around.
unless you went out of your way to use the color management APIs, you didn't
get it by default, and even then, you still have to do a lot of the work
yourself as the application programmer. that plus hugely varying monitor
quality just makes it hard work for you as an end user.
