It frequently starts when someone belittles DSLRs as expensive toys (often depicted as being for those with more money than sense). If people didn't attack DSLRs you'd see far less defensive posts. As you say - it's just a camera; a tool for the job or hobby. (It's not just the digital users who seem to feel the need to justify their position, either - we've seen more than enough posts from people rationalising their own decision not to go digital)
