The reason those folks did well 30-50 years ago was because they were given no choice. They either had to learn something, or fail. Now, they can (and do) just go out and buy the wunderplastic and on the surface, appear to succeed. Don't underestimate the desire of people to take the easy way out, it is very strong in most people. Read Bill Kane's rant from one of the other threads that is ongoing. People who used to buy instamatics can still buy cheap as dirt cameras that, surprisingly enough, take even worse pictures than what the instamatics were taking 30-50 years ago.
