Yeah, your ME super is faulty. The hotshoe is connected to the camera's
electronics by sprung contacts underneath, which may have oxidised over
time or become gunged up with migrated lubricant or something. If you're
not scared of taking the lid off, do just that and give the contacts a
good cleaning.

Can I use a AF160 Flash with ME Super? I tried to but the flash doesn't
fire. I do not have manuals for either. The flash test fires. I used a
small length of wire to manually connect the centre of the flash hotshoe
with the side pin of the hotshoe. The flash fired. I guess this is what
the camera does when the shutter is clicked.
I put a multimeter probe on side and centre pin of ME Super hotshoe
and clicked. No connectivity. Is my ME Super broken? What is the second
off-centre pin in the ME super hotshoe for?
Should I try to get a cable and try to connect that? I tried the 125
setting on the dial of the ME super but that didn't help either. Is
there some other setting that I have to do?
Thanks for any pointers.
