If you're a careful kind of person, it's not too hard. It's also a pretty safe procedure, in that as long as you don't break something by applying too much force, the camera will still work properly when you put it together again. Read through the Pentax ME service manual (on Mark Roberts' website, amongst other places). There's also an excellent tutorial on the web somewhere. No links I'm afraid - I don't have web access at the moment. If you get stuck, I can probably help.

Oh, and a tip - the winder cap has a left-hand thread :-)

Thanks! Any guide on how to get the lid off? Is it straightforward for
a first-timer? I am willing to give it a shot if someone says that
it isn't too difficult and doesn't require a whole lot of tools
and precision.

Yeah, your ME super is faulty. The hotshoe is connected to the camera's electronics by sprung contacts underneath, which may have oxidised over time or become gunged up with migrated lubricant or something. If you're not scared of taking the lid off, do just that and give the contacts a good cleaning.

Can I use a AF160 Flash with ME Super? I tried to but the flash
doesn't fire. I do not have manuals for either. The flash test fires.
I used a small length of wire to manually connect the centre of the
flash hotshoe with the side pin of the hotshoe. The flash fired. I
guess this is what the camera does when the shutter is clicked.

I put a multimeter probe on side and centre pin of ME Super hotshoe
and clicked. No connectivity. Is my ME Super broken? What is the
second off-centre pin in the ME super hotshoe for?

Should I try to get a cable and try to connect that? I tried the 125
setting on the dial of the ME super but that didn't help either. Is
there some other setting that I have to do?

Thanks for any pointers.
