Outside of this list I know one person with a Pentax camera and that will be
sold or part exchanged shortly for a 10D.

Quite a few people I have bumped into have sold/lost/given away their film
cameras for digital. Most say that it takes the hassle out of putting film
in, actually remembering to buy film or the aggravation of development. Most
go for anything except Pentax. Certainly my local shops have lots of camera
advertising with Pentax noticeable by it's absence. One person I chatted
with thought that Pentax had been bought out...

OK, it's fair to say that most of the people I see regularly aren't
photographers, they like having a camera for parties, birthdays etc like
most people do and that's great. I see the odd bit of Pentax advertising,
but that's mainly in photographic magazines anyway, but I don't see a great
deal elsewhere in medialand, TV/Radio or street advertising. Getting people
to buy things more often than not means having your nose put in front of the
name and/or product the whole time. Everyone has heard of McDonalds burgers,
but they don't let you forget - the advertising is constant and everywhere.
I know I'm not comparing like with like, but you can't sell things that
people don't know - or remember - are available to buy!
