I can produce files as sharp as anything with my istD and photoshop CS. I don't know how you could perceive a difference large enough to be frustrated by it.... Maybe it is a case of the "grass is always greener..." With the proper lens on the istD, and the right raw converter, I personally feel the istD is capable of delivering razor sharp images.
You are probably the type that if you had the "other brands" you would feel frustrated because there was moiré visible that Pentax doesn't have a problem with... Sometimes a guy needs to buck up and deal with it, rather than complaining about miniscule differences in sharpness that are only noticeable with 16x20 prints and a high powered loupe. It is of course, your right to demand more, but in all honestly, rather than complaining, perhaps you should do something about it if its really that horrible. I for one find the clean images of the istD extraordinary... And the problems that the camera has, I have found solutions for, hence, I am enjoying my camera even more now than when I first purchased it. I know that sounds a little harsh, but the sharpness issue has gone on for too long, I'm sick of the same tired arguments. The other day I was taking some fairly close portraits with the SMC-F 28 and found the end result WAY to sharp, I actually had to soften the image considerably... Even at 5x7 the printout was disturbingly high resolution... Of course, I shot in RAW, and converted with PS CS.... That was wide-open too. That lens is really quite good up-close. Maybe you should use a tripod?? -el gringo At the same time, I see users of other brands produce images with a sharpness I am not able to get. Which frustrates me. :-( cheers, Jostein
