Know Jostein & his photography well, do you? It may be a case of the way things read on the internet, but you did come across as very nearly attacking Jostein and his photography personally - especially with the tripod comment etc.
Don't get me wrong, I hear what you are saying - and I am reasonably happy with the istD sharpess through CS too. But I respect Jostein well enough to listen to what he is saying and consider his points. Personally I would not be TOTALLY happy with any of the cameras currently on the market, and was never totally happy with my film scans at 4000dpi either. I am guessing Jostein never was either because I he seemed to use the 645 quite a lot. It is just possible that part of Jostein's frustration is due to the fact that he comes from medium format rather than 35mm, but I think he is objective enough to not make the comparative statements with other cameras without some justification (however big or small). He has obviously put a lot of effort into investigating this, and has tried all the convertors available in an effort to achieve what he wishes. I think it is a mistake to look for the holy grail in any of the current cameras - they are all compromised in some way or another. Comparisons only serve to frustrate the user, when it would probably be far better to avoid analysing that closely between models. Unfortunately once you start it is very difficult to brush it under the carpet later - every time you look at a picture from your camera you are coloured by the knowledge of where it is lacking and it is hard to push past that. In order to already compromise with an APS size bayer sensor at 6MP I had to confront many demons and manage to largely satisfy myself with what I have - those are the big compromises to me, not the small differences between one model and another. > -----Original Message----- > From: El Gringo [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > > > > Maybe it is a case of the "grass is always greener..." > With the proper lens on the istD, and the right raw converter, > I personally feel the istD is capable of delivering razor sharp images. > > > > Sometimes a guy > needs to buck up and deal with it, rather than complaining > about miniscule differences in sharpness that are only > noticeable with 16x20 prints and a high powered loupe.
