a photography division that isn't going to make a lot of money no matter what you do isn't going to attract a lot of investment. that's virtually everyone's take on Pentax. it's lost too much market share, has too little R&D, and with all but the highest end digital cameras becoming commodities, spending the money on developing high profit margin items is the smart thing to do. it's generally considered that the only reason Pentax is putting enough money into its camera division to hold its market share is to maintain the Pentax brand and prestige for selling its other optical products.
