Among the major camera manufacturers Pentax and Nikon are the ones where the camera 
division makes a significant contribution to the overall business. Olympus it is about 
10%. Canon less than 20%. With the logic above one can wonder why these companies 
bothers at all.
One can wonder what the spin-off effects are for Pentax selling mainly cheap P&S. I 
don't think buyers of endoscopes or surveying equipment give a damned about Pentax 
reputation (or lack thereof?) as a camera maker.
