I'm not surprised at all. Actually, I'm surprised they've been able to keep
making it this long (probably had parts in inventory).
I work in Components Engineering for a company that makes military (mostly)
radio communications equipment. My daily headache is parts obsolescence.
We build our equipment for a service life of ~20 years, but often the components
we use aren't around that long. With the semiconductor industry being driven
with fast turnover and fast obsolescence products like cellphones, a semiconductor
part can be introduced and go into obsolescence within 4 years.
Come to think of it, I'm amazed that Pentax has been able to keep up production
of the PZ-1p as long as they have.
