Just use the same lenses to test another *istD in the shop and see.

Upon taking a bunch of rather soft shots, I've just been testing my ist D's
AF. It seems that with the Sigma EX 28-70 2.8 (which I've not had any AF
problems with my 5n), even though the camera says something is focus (using
single point/ spot AF), the camera consistently misses the focus (tested on
text). Manual focusing yields the usual sharp focus I'm used to getting.
Batteries are full, btw.

Does this mean I should return the body for a new one, something is wrong
with my lens (I don't think this is the case..), or something else?

Please advise.

Thanks,
Ryan
