I am completely lacking in knowledge when it comes to collectibility/desirability/rarity of any camera, let alone m42's, but that won't stop me from providing an opinion. Seems to me that ES's regularly came in black. In fact, I'd venture a guess that black was more common than silver for ES's and ES II's. OTOH, I've ~never~ seen an SP500 or SP1000 in black. Black Spotties were uncommon, but unless mint, probably not worth that much. I have a black SP that I no longer use as it needs a CLA real bad - the meter doesn't work and the shutter speeds are waaaaay off - it's very heavily brassed and banged up, but to my eyes it's beautiful. Seems to me that a pre-Spottie in black is rare. Didn't JCO just get one (can't remember which model #) in mint condition? Gorgeous camera, and IIRC, he paid a bit for it... cheers, frank -- "It's about time we started to take photography seriously and treat it as a hobby." -Eliott Erwitt
