In your situation, I would recommend that you go for
the MZ-S. The slanted top plate and nice intuitive
knob layout makes it handle very nicely. It's even
better with the BG-10 grip. My favorite feature is
Exposure Data Imprinting which records your exposure
data like aperture, shutter speed and EV compensation
near the sprockets. This feature is not only great for
learning and record purposes, it's also useful if you
do a lot of bracketing, especially with slide film.
Another useful feature is a focus indicator in the
viewfinder which lights up when your subject is in
focus. Very useful when manual focusing, especially in
low light. The MZ-S would be a very worthy successor
to your PZ-1p.

If you decide to go digital, bear in mind that
conventional sized prints (4x6 etc) from most labs
will be cropped due to the 4:3 digital aspect ratio as
compared to the 3:2 aspect ratio of 35mm. How your
images are cropped is at the lab technician's
discretion.
