Then when everyone went bayonet, they brought out their own unique mounts. Can't have folks swapping lenses now, can we? Once you've bought into a "system", there's no going back!
Wouldn't it have been nice if everyone would have got together to decide on a universal bayonet mount? Mind you, there'd be no Cottyesque Frankencameras... <vbg>
Seriously, it's more or less happened with rangefinders, M-mount being the standard. They could have done it with SLR's if they'd have had a mind to do so.
That being the Leica M-mount, I suppose?
