Yeah, but as someone else said, that was more or less by default.

cameras by the 70's, were they?

So when there was a bit of a Renaissance, Konica, for example, used
essentially an M mount for their Hexar.  (I think there were some tiny
differences due to licencing squabbles, but for all intents and
purposes, the lenses are interchangeable).  Of course, the bayonet  CV
Bessa is M mount, too.  As will be the new Zeiss Ikon.

Mind you, the Contax G series has a proprietary mount, don't they? 
OTOH, they're AF...
