I use a spreadsheet set up years ago to manage my slide collection (Open Office Calc - actually I originally used a database program but I find Open Office can cope for the present). The spreadsheet has a whole stack of data fields (including keywords), most of which are probably of little value but they seemed like a good idea when I set it up!
I've adapted the same basic system to cater for digital images with hotlinks to thumbnail files. I also have links to thumbnails of any slides that I get scanned. I guess it's not as convenient as some of the dedicated image management programs but now that I'm used to it I can input data and links pretty quickly. I doubt, however, that the system would work for really big image libraries. There are two advantages from my point of view: * Having data for all images (digital and film) in the one file. * Open Office is a cross-platform program which is ideal as I work in both Windows and Linux. Oh - and Open Office is free.....
