My original seems to have been lost in the ether, so a slight reprise:
It's no worse than anywhere else. Carry a stout monopod if you feel insecure.

I bet you'll read about pickpockets everywhere in the world. I've been warned about pping for new york, central america, hamburg, egypt and usually had no problem when I got there. Of course if you are not careful you will lose equipment, but that does even stand true for my quiet cozy little local hometown: if you leave your stuff unattended or in easy reach someone else will attend to it.
But since I've not been to prague myself so far (a few friends have been there and never mentioned problems) I can't tell for sure of course.
And if you walk about waving money in everybodies face you'll have a problem, too, of course :)

Considering the few votes for Prague, I went to do some light research. Came across a few cautions about personal safety. Something which seemed to come up quite a bit was taxis in the street and pickpockets. Considering that I'll be travelling alone and am quite certain that I look like a prime target, is there a legitimate basis for these concerns?

I agree , although being from Prague I am not the most objective advisor ;-)

Was just looking at some places in Europe to go as a side trip for a
couple
of days on my trip to Europe. Have been offered Dublin, Munich,
Frankfurt,
Vienna, Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris, Rome, Zurich, Edinburgh, Helsinki,
Madrid,
Copenhagen, Prague as a free sidetrip. On a starving student's
budget,
any
suggestions on a good place to rove about for a day or two?
Cheers, Ryan
