A trick I learned from a couple of old pros many years ago, and something I
doubt many people here would consider, but I'll mention it anyway: we'd get
a Kodak film cannister or two (what are now considered to be the antique or
vintage aluminum ones) with the screw on caps, and tape them to the thin
leather camera straps we used. They were perfect for carrying a roll of
spare film, change, or little odds and ends. Of course, in those days we
didn't have all the fancy accessories that we have today, and had to
improvise a lot. Personally, I still like that old trick .... simple,
cheap, sturdy, and, to me, the old cannisters look real cool taped to the
old straps. The new plastic cannisters, BTW, don't work near as well.

Yes, but those old canisters are swines to get hold of nowadays. I use a craft knife to cut two parallel holes at the top and bottom of the same side of a tub. Slide the strap in at the top and out at the bottom and reattach it to the camera. Only works well with the narrow (as in the original LX) type of strap.
