I used to, when I had an ME strap which was the wide version, glue a couple of film canisters in between the doubled part of the strap, laying horizontally when the strap was on my shoulder or around my neck. That way, the film slid out very easily with a slight movement. The canisters were the modern type with the pop-on plastic lids, and I never found that to be a problem.

Of course, now I'm mainly shooting digital....maybe I could do the same for all the little covers the *istD has!

A trick I learned from a couple of old pros many years ago, and something I
doubt many people here would consider, but I'll mention it anyway: we'd get
a Kodak film cannister or two (what are now considered to be the antique or
vintage aluminum ones) with the screw on caps, and tape them to the thin
leather camera straps we used. They were perfect for carrying a roll of
spare film, change, or little odds and ends. Of course, in those days we
didn't have all the fancy accessories that we have today, and had to
improvise a lot. Personally, I still like that old trick .... simple,
cheap, sturdy, and, to me, the old cannisters look real cool taped to the
old straps. The new plastic cannisters, BTW, don't work near as well.

Wow, that _is_ annoying. I guess I'll have to start looking on eBay
for MZ-series straps! :-)
