For a 11 years old a DC might make more sense since she won't have to worry
about processing fee (assuming she has PC at home), something like Powershot
A400. For film P&S, Olympus Stylus Epic 35mm seems to be the logical choice.

I've been advised my 11 year old G'dr would like a "real" camera for
Christmas...
Her mom says, no interchangeable lenses, etc., and while she's not a
Luddite, necessarily, she doesn't think her daughter is really ready for
all the purely mechanical business... It may be that MOM is not ready...

So, gifting her with one of my nice mechanicals (MG, MV) is out of the
picture. For now.
In the meanwhile, who has an idea of a simple, 35mm film version, fully
auto P&S Pentax, with perhaps a 3X zoom lens.
Assuming all the Pentax lenses are of equal capability in that camera line,
does it all boil down to price?
ARE the lenses equal to each other in the P&S category? Is any one better
than the other?
I'll head off to the Pentax site, but thought I'd ask here first, to see if
some consensus can be developed...
Thanks ahead of time,
