That's not quite true, Pentax was recognized as a manufacturer of Pro-level equipment, the Spotmatic
was most preferred by sports photographers by the way. They just didn't market their equipment as pro-level,
until the MX that is. Based on longevity spotmatics were certainly robust enough by any standards.

Right. And, they never were, either.


The Spotmatic may have been used by some pros (I think it was second
in 35mm SLR preference for pros in the mid-to-late sixties), but by
far the Nikon F system was number one.

The Spotmatic wasn't designed or marketed as a pro camera.  The Nikon was.
