And 2500 mAh should be enough for short-term emergency use; a fully-charged 2500mAh cell is more use than a well-past-it's-shelf-life chemical cell that has been in the flashlight for an indeterminate period, and we keep a spare set of cells in the charger. For longer-duration use I'm thinking of getting a Makita that can take the same batteries as my rechargeable power tools, but I don't always keep one of those fully charged and ready.
If it's NiMH, it's not gonna hold a charge sitting on a shelf.
