The wider reels also mean that all of the film is close to the outside, none
near the centreline. In consequence all of the film travels at a similar
speed during rotation and gets more consistent agitation from first to last
frame. This is surprisingly unimportant with colour processing but b&w film
demands greater evenness of agitation.
I considered this when I bought my little Jobo, so I ran a roll of film Probably T-Max through the camera, giving every frame the same exposure to a gray card, and them processing it.
There was no deviation of density from the first frame to the last.
For 4x5, I am using a 2500 series tank, which is much larger, and carries more chemistry as well, which gives me a lot more options.
With 35mm or 120, I am pretty much married to HC:110, either dilution A, or B.
