According to Marx all societies go through essentially the same stages
of industrial development. It is therefore a historical dialectic
inevitability that almost as soon as they have developed spinning
jennies and the crinoline, somebody in the 3rd world will have the
bright idea to coat a piece of paper with a silver solution.

The rest will be history. Eventually.

One path leads to despair and utter hopelessness,
the other to total extinction.
Let us pray that we have the wisdom to choose correctly."
