You may then argue that demand was low because of the quality problems, and not the design or concept itself, and thus the idea hasn't really been tried out in a reasonable manner.

Well, apart from what I said earlier, the point was just that the existence of *one* such product isn't much of an argument on its own, either. The failure of a single product doesn't prove that there isn't a market - especially when you can point out reasons like lack of quality, why that product would fail.



With the price of DSLR's, most people are going to want one that shoots colour, rather than one that is limited to monochrome.
Add to that the less than idal options available to print B&W from digital, and the ability to desaturate colour images in editing programs, and I don't really see a high end mono only digital as being a demand item.
