Digicams keep a record of the image count by default as you know, film cameras generally don't. So when shooting digicams the number is always in your face as it's a component of the file name. When on occasion I've quoted # of shots it's been more an expression of surprise than any kind of arm flexing. I'm pretty sure that's the case when others do the same, it's got absolutely nothing to do with the worth of any images produced. Take it as you will however.
