Exactly, no one in this discussion has indicated if they were measuring the
voltage of their cells under load. Most any voltmeter will present a load to
the battery that is a minute fraction of the load imposed by a device such as a
DSLR, the only way batteries can be tested adequately is to monitor their
voltage under the load (or an approximation of) that they will be subjected to.

I tested my alcalines with a battery charger/tester that puts the batteries under the load of the tester (it takes 7-8 seconds for the tester to calculate the voltage). Too different from the D's load to be of any help?
