Using a 49mm filter and a lens hood will effectively block the Leica
viewfinder. As it is now, even the small Leica lens hoods protrude
into the finder area. Using the filter without a hood wouldn't be
too bad, as one could look through the glass. But using such a
filter without a hood may very well contribute to substantial flare
and ghosting.
Many Leica hoods are vented, in that they have a window through
which you can look. You can see a pretty good contemporary example
