Good question on underlying problems. I've been burning a bunch of DVD's these last few days and last night I left the system on while ThumbsPlus cataloged a new DVD. When I got up this morning the system was off and would not turn on. I unplugged it, plugged it back in, and it started. I assumed it had over heated (the motherboard is designed to shut down if there is an overheat problem) and the usual cause of overheating is dust clogging the heat sink. So once it was up and running and seemed OK, I shut down again and used some canned air to blow out the heatsink.

Otherwise, it has not crashed. I have the latest version of PC-Cillin on, and it checks out as working etc.

Ironically, I started using Outlook Express a few months ago because my very install of Eudora (v 4.x) seemed to cause more problems interacting with Symantec Anti Virus that the virii themselves caused. I probably should of ponied up the money for the Eudora update.

you've had more luck than i then in recovering these files. now you have to wonder why it was screwed up. no crashes, no virus, etc?

Thanks, Herb - I'll keep that in mind in the future.

I have backed up the whole directory tree and then just copied it back into place without any problem.

I do still have the moved file, but it won't import. Looking at it with just WordPad I can see that it is not the right info. I'm guess that it got screwed up when it was accidentally moved.
