True, but I have yet to see a graphics program that lets me choose that
option unless I've also chosen JPEG-2000 as the output format.  I think
it's sorta like a lot of the things you can do inside TIFF files but
few (or none) of the available software actually uses them.
I'm not sure the traditional JPEG files support this kind of compression even in theory.

It should perhaps be pointed out in this context that the file format commonly referred to as JPEG is more properly called JFIF (Jpeg File Interchange Format.) It seems like we are confusing each other more than necessary because we use the same name when describing the file format as well as when taliking about the compression scheme(s),
