If I'm holding a camera, or it's on my shoulder, it does not have a lens
cap on. This activity would not suit a K1000 without unnecessary drain on
the meter battery. Hence, to me: daft!!
Light coming in through the viewfinder will often turn the meter on as well.
I've drained several K1000 batteries via my habit of leaving my camera on
the kitchen table with sun shining on the back.
