JV Powertools (now shareware, freeware before selling it to Mace Software) )
is a powerful tool for cleaning out unused or obsolete registry entries
under all Windows versions.
If you only select *green* entries in the registry cleaner module and did
**a registry backup before that** you are pretty safe with that tool. I use
it nearly daily on different client computers.
It does not defrag the registry however and in the hands of the
inexperienced user it can damage windows
completely like the other tools.
Take care for example when using some versions of Norton Antivirus or
Internet Security, most "cleaners"
manage to delete too much of Symantec's registry entries and in the worst
case you can completely reinstall Windows after that.
