Most manuals suggest the bright colours(or lights) and verticals are tough AF 
subjects.

Hers what the D2h manual i have on the computer here says:
Subject smaller than the focus area
Little or no contrast'
Dominated by geometric patterns
Sharp contrasting bright lights
Alot of fine detail
Vertical lines as in bars in a zoo cage

Hope that helps.

I find Pentax and Nikon to hunt in low light situations,but less with the two 
F2.8 lenses
